Kate Mclean - Professional Dog Trainer and Canine Behaviour Specialist.

Kate has had a passion for animals from the beginning when she began her first job working at a local animal hospital at age 16. After many fulfilling years of hands on work at the animal hospital, Kate went away to St. Lawrence Collage to return later as a Certified Veterinary Assistant. She continued her work at the clinic but yearned to further explore the field of canine behaviour and training. Her search brought her to Canadian Canine Training Academy where she found her one true calling; working with people and their dogs. After working side by side with the head trainer and teacher Randy Chartrand, Kate graduated from the Professional Dog Trainers course in July of 2003. Since then Kate has been fulfilling her long awaited dream and is working with people and their dogs, helping to build and strengthen the relationship between owner and canine companion.

Dear Canadian Canine Training Academy,

We want you to know that we are very pleased with the results of our eight week training session with Kate McLean. We engaged Kate’s services because Daisy, our six year old Sheppard mix, was having trouble socializing with other dogs, and this was making it very difficult even to walk her in the neighbourhood much less take her to a dog park.   Kate taught us why Daisy behaved the way she did, how to recognize when a situation was about to get out of control, and how to prevent this from happening. The result is that Daisy is now much more comfortable meeting other dogs and we are certainly more comfortable about introducing her to such situations. Graduation day was a great success. Daisy ran off-leash for more than half an hour with about twenty other dogs of all breeds, sexes, and sizes without a single incident. On a recent trip, undertaken immediately following her graduation, Daisy was welcomed everywhere we went and we felt confident that we could introduce Daisy into new environments and make her feel comfortable.  We will certainly not hesitate to recommend your services to others who are looking for help to learn how to get control so they can more fully enjoy the companionship of their dog. Sincerely, Libby and John

Kate, Thanks for all your help, Jake and I have both learned a lot. I am sure we will both continue to make progress using the skills and knowledge we have acquired. Betty.

Kate, Thank you for all your help! I'm not sure what we'd do without you! Sean and Devon.

Kate, You've made a big difference! We've learned a lot and so has Bentley. Thank you, Jim & Margret

Kate, Thanks so much for all your guidance and great techniques. Dakota is becoming a beutifully talented member of our family. She has come a long way with your help. I was worried she would not be as smart as my last one, but you have proved she is! Thank you, Dave.

Thank Goodness for Kate! (and for rules, boundaries and limitaions) Your help has been invaluable. Carmela & Tonia.

Kate, Thanks for your enthusiasm, your knowledge and especially your patience. Jim & Joan.

Hi Kate, Just wanted to say thank you for all your help with Stanley. It's amazing how a little training can change a dog so much. I will for sure recommend your services to anyone! Thanks again. Katie & Stanley .

Dear Kate, Thank you so much for your help with Orville. When I first met you at the Wedding Shower I said to myself, "If I get a dog, I want her to help me train him!" And it came true. My instincts are great :) He is a sweet puppy in large part because of you. Cathy.

Hi Kate, I just wanted to send you a quick update to let you know how Maggie did at the cottage with her e- collar. It's been great! Now when we call her, she comes zooming back. Also, she knows that she is not supposed to bark excessively with it on. I had to give her only one correction to remind her. And you were right -  she has learned that she can still wandering around and play with it on. Thanks again for all your training. Sylvia.

Hi Randy, I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how much we enjoyed our 1-on-1training with Kate. She was extremely friendly and confident and inspired us to have confidence that we could train our dog Maggie, a 2 year old lab mix who was quite dominant. From the first few moments, Kate showed us how to interact with Maggie to start getting desired responses, and she helped us with everything from walking, to recall, swimming and more. She was also willing to stay longer some evenings if we were making progress, and overall it was obvious how much she loves her job. We will absolutely recommend Canadian Canine to all of our friends & family, and specifically direct them to Kate. We give her an 11 on 10 and thought you should know what an amazing job she's doing. Best regards, Josh.

Hi Kate, Jim and I want you to know how much we appreciate the time, patience, and expertise you shared with us. You provided us with the tools and confidence to work with Molly. We loved her before but love her even more now! Our on leash walks are enjoyable for all, and her off leash time is really fun. We are all happy!! Thanks again. Enjoy your summer and we will watch for you at the ball diamond. Joan.

Hello Randy - On behalf of my family, I would like to express our profound appreciation for the expertise of Canadian Canine Training Academy, and in particular Kate McLean.

Our 2 year old Border Terrier, Hamish, had many serious behaviour issues that we were unable to correct both on our own and with other methods of training. Although he is very bright and responded well in obedience classes as a puppy, he was increasingly nervous and aggressive both with people outside our family and with other dogs. We found ourselves planning his walks during quiet times along lonely routes so that we could avoid walkers, joggers, dogs, bicycles, cars - just about anything and everything. He would lunge, bark, snarl and snap. Having tried other obedience classes without success, we desperately hoped we could correct his behaviour with patience and time, but when he bit a visitor in our home, we made the call to Canadian Canine Training Academy.

Kate made a home visit to assess Hamish, and a few weeks later he was in 2 weeks of boarding-obedience with Kate and her family. He has been home for 4 weeks now, and the changes are nothing short of miraculous. At our last outing with Kate earlier this week, we went to Bruce Pit where Hamish ran off leash with other dogs, responding to commands, was appropriate with strangers - in every way a changed dog, and a happier dog.

Kate explained clearly and patiently to our whole family what she felt were the primary issues with Hamish, and what she hoped could be corrected. She was consistently re-assuring, concise, informed and professional in every way. We were provided with clear guidelines to not only improve his behaviour but also enhance our ability to address issues with Hamish in the future. Kate was always available for support and guidance, and had a wonderful rapport with Hamish. My husband and I were impressed with her attitude and ability from her first encounter with Hamish, and we were never disappointed.

It is difficult to express how much our lives have changed, and more importantly, how Hamish's life has changed. We always loved our little dog, but now we all have a fuller, more rewarding future ahead of us. Thank you for having the answers, expertise and patience to give us all a new beginning - we are forever grateful to Canine Academy, and to Kate McLean. Sincerely, Kathy.

Hi Kate, I want to thank you for all your help in training Zeus and myself.  In my wildest dreams I never thought that we could accomplish so much in such a short time frame.  It was most enjoyable. Take Care, Kevin.

Kate, Chance & Banjo have become "model doggy citizens" and almost everyone we meet on our walks remarks on their discipline and good behavior. Banjo especially has become much more calm and I believe that's because he knows that we are the pack leaders and he doesn't have to do everything for himself. We are still working on both our pups and have managed to maintain what you taught us and (I think) we've even advanced somewhat. I hope someday we will meet during one of our walks in woods so we can show you the results of your efforts! Ron & Marika.

Thanks Kate! What a weekend!  Are you SURE this is Sidney... our Sidney??? We had people over Saturday night for dinner and my best friend thought that he might be medicated...lol.  she noticed a HUGE difference! I wish you had video taped him for a before/after advertisement.  Luc could not be happier. Friday night he sat on the floor in the family room with him, petting him etc. What a relief. I think I mentioned that he had already decided that we would be getting rid of him if this did not work. You were our last chance! Finally we have the dog we had thought we were getting. . THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

 Will keep you posted. Tanya.

Hi Kate, I just wanted to thank you again for all of your work with Sidney.  Sidney is truly a new dog...I still can't believe it.  He was so calm and well behaved that I sometimes forgot he was there.  Taking Sidney on bike rides was also a great idea.  We were out twice on Saturday and once on Sunday.  They really tire him out.  Bye for now. Luc.

Hi Kate, Just wanted to let you know that the e-collar is amazing!!  It's so much fun to take Sasha to the park and actually play fetch. She brings the stick back and drops it at my feet (never done that before without food as an incentive)  I rarely have to touch the remote.  In the house is much better too. Haven't corrected her stealing food off the counter yet, but I will!!   Makes the crazy hours around dinner so much better! Thanks again for showing me how to use it and being persistent that I will like it once I get it!  She is great when  people come to the front door. I had a delivery this morning and she stayed where she was told.

I'll keep you posted on our progress! Thanks again! Janice.

We have just finished a basic obedience training course for our 3 and a half year old black lab mix, Stanley.  I would like to say how pleased we are and that all our expectations were more than satisfied.  Kate is a very talented trainer and was a joy to work with.  She is very professional.  Her methods and explanations were easy to understand.  The difference in Stanley is remarkable.  Obviously she didn’t just train Stanley, but trained us as well.  We would have no hesitation in recommending the Canadian Canine Training Academy in general and Kate in particular to our friends and have in fact done so. Many Thanks! Don & Diane .

Your understanding of dogs was above what I hoped to get and you were a joy to work with.  If you ever need a reference or testimonial, we'd be more than happy to provide an enthusiastically positive one.   Best Regards, Trent, Melanie and Cady
